As we gear up for lots of laughs and fun at our annual Halloween Contest, I felt it was due to mention some sad events in the P o P community.
Over the last months, we have lost some animal friends who were near and dear to us. Some retired from service, others passed away from age or disease, and others who are dealing with hard news as we blog. A big hug to the loving owners who are closest to the loss. It's so hard to go home to that empty house, or empty spot.....

Cat and Kitten Adoptions at Paws on Piedmont!

We are so pleased to have Hopalong Animal Rescue back for mobile adoption fairs! Hopalong will be here this Saturday, January 31st from 12-3 with cats and kittens.

Our next scheduled adoption fair with the wonderful group Maine Coon Adoptions will be Saturday, February 21st from 11-3pm. Go to mainecoonadoptions.com to get pre-approved.

New Stuff for Bored Dogs!

A little birdie told us that there are some antsy pups, roaming empty houses (and chewing on things they shouldn't be) while waiting for their human companions to get back home! Sound familiar?

Come on in and try out one of our new products from the Busy Buddy line. These interactive toys keep pets interested and engaged. They look really cool too. The picture here is of the Tug-A-Jug. My personal fav is the Kibble Nibble...looks like a body part of an alien. Sorry, no pictures. Gotta come in to get a glimpse!

Amid great fanfare, may I present Cicero, one of the many beloved cats served by Paws on Piedmont.

Cicero is a formally-feral cat from Wisconsin. Though he still bares scars from his wild past, Cicero now enjoys the easy life indoors.

He also enjoys catnip toys,

and his raw food made by Primal Pet Foods. Primal is a local Bay Area company that uses only 100% human grade antibiotic and hormone-free meats, certified organic produce, vitamins and minerals, and supports sustainable agriculture.

Cicero loves to play and he recommends DaBird which is, in his opinion, the best cat toy ever!

(Always a diplomat, Cicero requested this post. He says that several neighborhood cats have contacted him with concerns about this blog becoming too canine-centric. Perhaps this is true, but I also have reason to believe that Cicero is craving a little bit of the limelight for himself. Regardless of his motivation, I'm willing to accept his advice on this issue. )

Delilah: Dlog of the Day!

Meet Delilah.

She's part Papillon, part Shih Tzu and all love.

She's also a regular at Paws on Piedmont. When Delilah first began visiting the store, she was just a tiny ball of fluff but last month she celebrated her first birthday!

Delilah also enjoys visiting her friends at Piedmont Fabric, a wonderful fabric store here on the Ave. Delilah lives with her roommate Trixie, one of our fabulous local felines.

2nd Annual Pet Halloween Costume Contest!

Deck out your doggy and join us on October 25th at 1pm for our second annual Pet Costume Contest! Last year was a blast and we're looking forward to some fierce competition and many happy dogs this year.

We're giving out four prizes:

1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd place, and Best Human and Dog Duo!

Here's Abbey, 1st Place Winner in '07! Unfortunately, we didn't get any photos from the actual contest when she was dressed as Mummy Dog. This picture is from a few months later when Abbey sauntered into the store as Santa.

Don't forget, Piedmont Avenue's Annual Halloween Costume Parade starts at 11 that morning. The 25th is a very dog friendly day on the Ave!

Cat and Kitten Adoption Fairs

We are proud to host cat and kitten adoption fairs! We work with wonderful non-profit groups dedicated to animal rescue.

Currently, Maine Coon Adoptions brings beautiful Maine Coon cats the third Saturday of every month. The kitties are here from 11am until 3pm.

Saving Grace Rescue brings kittens every Sunday from 11am until 5pm, or until they are all adopted!

We've also hosted Hopalong (a rescue group based out of Oakland and Marin County) cat and kitten adoptions.

Wall of Fame.

First timers (of the human species) to Paws on Piedmont always notice our wall of Polaroid portraits. We snapped the first picture on day one, and one and a half years later we've photographed hundreds of neighborhood dogs (and a few cats) who have visited our store! The wall behind the counter is filled with happy dog smiles.

(By the way, first timers of the canine species tend to comment on the delicious treats instead of the pictures!)
